Feng Chia University Partners with ASUS to Establish AI Talent Development Hub “AI Smart Innovation Foundry” with GeForce RTX 5080 Computing Center Officially Launched
2026.01.05
As generative AI accelerates industry-wide transformation, Feng Chia University demonstrates its commitment and determination to strengthening AI education. Today (5th), the university held the grand opening of the AI Smart Innovation Foundry, officially unveiling the first large‑scale AI teaching facility among Taiwanese universities equipped with flagship ASUS PRIME GeForce RTX 5080 hardware.
The opening ceremony was attended by President Vey Wang of Feng Chia University, Ming‑Chieh Hsieh, COO of ASUS; Yin‑Han Chiang, General Manager of ASUS Open Platform and AIoT Business Unit (Taiwan); and Yi‑Wei Chu, Senior Business Associate at NVIDIA Taiwan. The establishment of this new facility signals that Feng Chia University has successfully aligned its AI curriculum with the global frontier of “computing power” and real‑world applications.

Industry‑Level Specifications: Hardware Aligned with Real‑World Applications
The AI Smart Innovation Foundry is equipped with 61 ASUS ExpertCenter Pro ET500I W8 high‑performance workstations, all featuring NVIDIA’s latest‑generation Blackwell‑architecture PRIME GeForce RTX 5080 GPU, paired with 64GB of memory—marking the first deployment of such large‑scale specifications in Taiwan’s higher‑education sector.
The facility also houses two advanced demonstration machines powered by RTX PRO 6000 GPUs (96GB VRAM), enabling training of 60‑billion‑parameter large language models (LLMs). This means students can fully engage in cutting‑edge workflows such as LLM fine‑tuning, RAG pipeline development, and image generation (e.g., Stable Diffusion) directly on campus.
The space is designated for AI‑related coursework, including digital twins, AI programming, generative language models, and intelligent applications. Courses are open to students across the university—from the College of Information and Electrical Engineering, the College of Engineering and Science, the Bachelor’s Program of Artificial Intelligence Technology and Application, and through interdisciplinary electives—allowing faculty and students to acquire hands‑on industry experience during their studies.
Courses offered at the AI Smart Innovation Foundry include digital twins, AI programming, generative language models, and intelligent application practices, open to all Feng Chia University students.
Practice‑Driven Learning: Empowering Student Innovation with Top‑Tier Computing Power
Feng Chia University emphasizes that this is not a traditional computer lab, but a practice‑oriented digital foundry that treats data as raw material and refines it through advanced computational power into high‑value applications. Several student AI projects were showcased during the opening ceremony. These works had already earned recognition in domestic and international competitions even before this hardware upgrade, proving the strong research potential of Feng Chia students. With this new facility, the university aims to further accelerate student capability:
■ Smart Road Defect Detection SystemAn
automated road inspection system integrating vehicle‑mounted cameras and multiple AI algorithms.Awards include:– 1st Place, 14th National University AI Automation Equipment Innovation Competition– Silver Award, Green Sustainable Product Design Category, 10th Green Life Creative Design Competition
■ QualiVisionAn
Associate Professor Feng‑Cheng Lin from the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science showcased several award‑winning AI projects developed by Feng Chia faculty and students.

Industry‑Academia Synergy: AI Lab as a Service
Feng Chia University states that this hardware upgrade will deliver two core benefits:
Unlocking R&D PowerBy drastically reducing model‑training time, students can focus more on algorithm optimization and application design.
Seamless Industry AlignmentStudents gain immediate access to the same frontline tools and workflows used across industries, enabling faster adaptation to real‑world AI development environments.
The AI Smart Innovation Foundry is built with the vision of “AI Lab as a Service”, serving as a central hub for AI technologies and interdisciplinary applications. It integrates GPU resource management and industry‑academia training to create a shared instructional environment.
The space also enables students to operate edge devices, deploy models, and conduct performance optimization. Through collaborative industry projects and internship pipelines, the facility ensures that coursework remains aligned with industry trends—nurturing future talent equipped with professional, hands‑on, and cross‑disciplinary capabilities.
Dean Tsu‑Wang Shen of the College of Information and Electrical Engineering emphasized that students will now be able to deeply engage in cutting‑edge workflows such as LLM fine‑tuning, RAG system development, and image generation—all within the campus environment.
